Open Film Club at the Upper Room
Community film club for homeless and socially excluded people
UPPER ROOM is happy to be partnering Open Film Club (OFC) to host regular film nights at the Upper Room starting from Tuesday 23 February 2010 at 18.00. "The Scene of Crime" is the name of the first session to be screened at the Upper Room during February, March and April. "The Godfather", “Vinci” and “Minority Report" are among some of the films included in the spring programme.
At the end of the session, there will be a short film on the theme of crime made by members of the OFC at the Upper Room. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion where members can put questions to a high-level representative of the Metropolitan Police.
Open Film Club has been screening films for homeless and vulnerably housed people in Central London since 2005. OFC's founder Christoph Warrack had been volunteering at a soup kitchen for a few years when there was a call to offer some form of entertainment for the service users. Since then OFC has presented three seasons of films a year including Contemporary Thrillers, Comedy, Adventure and currently Music.
Christoph works with an experienced team of coordinators and volunteers and is interested to hear from anyone keen to volunteer at the new venues.
OFC arranges for filmmakers and web designers to host discussions on films and lead courses. Major filmmakers are invited to attend gala screenings at the end of each season.
Screenings are free and food is provided.
Open Film Club believes that everyone has a unique contribution to make to society, and works to provide the means for homeless people to find, better understand, and be inspired by their own.
